CNN Original Series has set a May 9 premiere date for “K-Everything,” a four-part documentary series hosted and executive produced by Tony Award-nominated actor, director, producer and social advocate Daniel Dae Kim.

The series will launch on CNN International, with new episodes dropping weekly on Saturdays. U.S. audiences with CNN streaming subscriptions will be able to watch on demand through the CNN app from the same date.

Each of the four episodes focuses on a pillar of Korea’s cultural export boom. In Seoul, Kim sits down with leading figures from the K-pop world to investigate how the industry cultivated an extraordinarily devoted international following. He then turns to Korean screen content, visiting drama sets and visual effects facilities to chart the medium’s remarkable journey from heavy state censorship to global streaming dominance and Academy Award recognition. A Pyeongchang kimchi festival serves as the backdrop for an episode examining how Korean cuisine has carved out a presence in dining cultures worldwide, spanning everything from market stalls to the upper echelons of fine dining. The final episode looks at the science and savvy behind South Korea’s beauty industry and how the country came to set the agenda for cosmetics consumers around the world.

“It’s both a personal and professional thrill to be able to showcase Korea through our series, ‘K-Everything,’” Kim said. “There’s never been more interest in its people and culture, so it feels like the perfect time to explore the dynamics of its success. Whether you’re already a K-expert, or a newbie, we hope you’ll be able to gain a unique and fresh perspective on a place that means so much to me.”

Amy Entelis, executive VP for talent and content development at CNN Worldwide, said the series reflects the network’s commitment to globally minded, character-led programming. “Daniel takes viewers on a dynamic, character-driven journey to explore how Korea’s creative industries have dramatically reshaped music, film, food, and beauty around the world,” she said.

“K-Everything” represents the first joint effort between CNN’s Originals unit and its Asia Pacific-based Global Productions team. Executive producers alongside Kim are Entelis, Ellana Lee, Jon Jensen, Katie Hinman and Ryan Smith for CNN Original Series.

Kim is repped by UTA, Linden Entertainment, ID and Gang Tyre.
